Beginner’s guide for Call of Dragons

Call of Dragons is a strategy MMO released in spring 2023. The game immediately caught the attention of strategy fans — many rushed to explore the new world full of battles and opportunities. This guide will help beginners get started and take confident steps in development.

Choosing a Faction

Choosing a Faction in Call of Dragons

A faction determines your starting hero, unique bonuses, and access to special troops. It doesn’t affect balance much — more of a cosmetic choice. The game has 3 factions, and you can switch once for free (after upgrading City Hall to level 10). The next change costs 10,000 gems.

Beginners are not recommended to start with Orcs — their melee playstyle requires more resources and experience.

Completing Quests

Main quests help you quickly adapt and learn mechanics. They take more time but also give better rewards. Side quests are worth doing if they align with your current goals or offer useful resources.

Alliances and Help

Alliances and Help

Joining an alliance (or creating your own for 1,500 gems) gives access to allies’ support. Alliance members can speed up construction, research, and other processes. The higher the Alliance Center, the more effective the help.

Don’t ignore alliances — they provide a massive boost in development!

City Development

The City Hall is the core of your city — its level unlocks new buildings and upgrades. Barracks should be raised to level 10–11 to build a strong army. The City Hall also opens new techs and race features.

Technologies

Research is split into economic and military. To unlock new branches, you must go step by step. Beginners should focus on:

  • Architecture
  • Scholarship
  • Upgrading the University

Later you can switch to military upgrades.

Resource Gathering

Resource Gathering in Call of Dragons

No resources — no progress. Send troops to mines and other gathering spots. Different units have different carrying capacities, so choose wisely.

Use the “Enhanced Gathering” buff (+50%) for 90,000 gold in the Goblin Shop. +25% extra if the resource point is on alliance territory.

Heroes

Leveling First Hero in Call of Dragons

Always focus on your first hero. Upgrade the first skill before others. Don’t raise star levels without maxing the key skill — it’s inefficient.

  • Follow the talent tree by specialization (archer → archer branch, etc.)
  • Don’t mix classes without purpose — not all combos are effective

Artifacts

Artifacts are divided into:

  • PvE — work only vs dark creatures, no rage cost
  • PvP — activate in player battles, cost 400+ rage

Pick artifacts by hero class, not rarity. Example: archers → ranged artifacts.

Notice Board

Unlocked after City Hall level 10. Adds a new tech branch — Internal Politics, requiring Prestige points (earned in campaigns).

Useful perks:

  • Military Expansion — increases troop capacity
  • Medical Warehouses — handy early on

VIP Level

VIP Level

Unlocked through the Shop. VIP gives passive bonuses for building, economy, and new items like healing boosts.

Aim for VIP 7–8 quickly — it gives major advantages.

Obelisk

A building that shows alliance progress and clan challenges. Completing them gives great rewards, especially world boss victories.

Campaign

Campaigns are a great extra for progress. Start with 1-star missions — easy and rewarding.

As you advance, more locations unlock. Follow the chain and pick the right troops.
