Hydra Guide — Strategy & Tips

Hydra — one of the most difficult and fast-paced behemoths in Call of Dragons. It possesses a deadly set of abilities: poison, AoE attacks, and dangerous mana stones, requiring well-coordinated teamwork. Even experienced raids may fail without coordination and understanding of mechanics.

Step-by-Step Strategy for Fighting Hydra

Step 1: Positioning and start of the fight

  • The tank should engage Hydra first in the center of the arena.
  • The rest of the team spreads out along the edges to minimize damage from frontal attacks (such as Fang Strike and Tail Swipe).
  • Ranged classes and supports should keep their distance.

Step 2: Managing Unstable Mana Stones

  • Unstable Mana Stones periodically appear in the arena.
  • If not picked up within 19 seconds, the stone will explode, dealing heavy AoE damage to the entire raid.
  • The stone should be picked up by a high-DPS player to gain a DPS bonus, but they will also receive poison.
  • If no suitable candidate is available, any player must pick it up to prevent a wipe.

Step 3: Avoiding Poison Attacks

Hydra actively uses poison abilities:

  • Poison Pulse — strikes random players.
  • Poison Cracks — appear on the ground; to prevent an explosion, one player must stand on each (but they will be poisoned).
  • Miasma — builds up poison stacks, dealing damage over time.
  • Players must move and control positioning to minimize damage and not overwhelm the healers.

Step 4: Dispersing Mana Stones

  • Dispersing Mana Stones appear at key moments of the fight.
  • They cleanse poison stacks and heal the raid.
  • When these stones appear, use them immediately — up to 10 players must touch one to get the effect.
  • Especially important in Elite version, where poison deals much higher damage.

Step 5: Knockback and Poison Trails

  • At certain points, Hydra knocks players back and moves to the end of the arena.
  • She leaves behind poison trails — dodge them and stand on cracks to prevent explosions.
  • In Elite mode, damage from these trails can be lethal, especially if players are stacked.

Step 6: Fight cycle and repetition

  • The Hydra fight follows a cyclical pattern:

poison management → mana stones → positioning → repeat.

  • Pay attention to abilities like Vicious Strike — it deals linear damage and knocks players back.
  • Key actions: maintain positioning, manage poison, use mana stones, and heal.

Elite Version Features of Hydra

  • +150% health, attack and defense
  • Poison Rain every 50 seconds: 500 magic damage/sec for 10 seconds
  • Ranged units deal 20% less damage
  • Requires top gear, a solid strategy, and precise raid coordination

General Tips:

  • Play with voice comms — timings are critical
  • Assign players responsible for unstable and dispersing mana stones
  • Use spread positioning to avoid heavy AoE damage
